Summary
A conference organized by the food industry made it possible to show that the CO2 equivalent of a refrigerant is not the most important element that needs to be taken into account when designing refrigerating plants whilst complying with the Kyoto Protocol. Indeed, containment of the fluids and effective maintenance of the installations can significantly limit leaks. On the other hand, the energy performance of the fluid is important since energy consumption depends directly on this. And production of this energy generates greenhouse gases. In the future, this philosophy will most probably be retained.
