Freeze 12: answering the call for an alternative refrigerant.
Author(s) : ADAMS K. M.
Summary
Freeze 12 is an EPA acceptable CFC alternative refrigerant blended and packaged by the Technical Chemical Company, USA. Freeze 12 is a binary blend of refrigerants consisting of 80% HFC-134a and 20% HCFC-142b. In laboratory and field testing, compatibility with existing CFC-12 air conditioning systems does not appear to be a major issue. In addition, system flushing and/or component draining to facilitate mineral oil removal is not necessary during conversion. Given the miscibility of mineral oil in HCFC-142b coupled with the mass flow of refrigerant within the system create conditions in which oil return to the compressor is very good.
