FREEZE-DRYING OF BACTERIAL CULTURES.

Author(s) : WILLEMER H.

Summary

THE SUCCESSFUL FREEZE-DRYING OF MICRO-ORGANISMS DEPENDS ON THE PROTECTANT, THE FREEZING PROCESS, THE TEMPERATURE DURING MAIN DRYING, THE RESIDUAL MOISTURE CONTENT, THE GAS AND THE TEMPERATURE DURING STORAGE, AND THE CONDITIONS OF RECONSTITUTION. QUANTITATIVE DATA HAVE TO BE DEFINED FOR THE WHOLE FREEZE-DRYING PROCESS AND THE EQUIPMENT MUST BE CAPABLE OF MEASURING THESE DATA, DOCUMENTING THEM AND OF BEING ADJUSTED IF DEVIATION OCCURS TO THE DESIGNED DATA EITHER BY HAND OR AUTOMATICALLY. FOR LARGER INSTALLATIONS, LOADING AND UNLOADING SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED.
