Generation of controlled atmospheres by utilizing fruit respiration.

Author(s) : BOHLING H.

Summary

Experiments were conducted to evaluate a system of fruit storage used in China where the natural respiration of fruits is harnessed to produce controlled-atmosphere conditions. This method was not seen as competing with controlled-atmosphere storage but rather as an intermediate solution for smaller enterprises where cost precludes the use of the more technological requirements of controlled-atmosphere stores.
