Soft-optimized system tests conducted with several possible R22 and R502 alternatives.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
The R22 Alternative Regrigerants Evaluation Program (AREP) reports the results of manufacturers' tests using the refrigerant blend R32-R125 (60-40) as a substitute for R22. Some system components may have been changed to produce the same order of efficiency and capacity. In most cases a similar capacity at slightly reduced efficiency was obtained at decreased compressor displacement. A full set of AREP reports using the above and other blends as substitutes for R22 or R502 are available from the Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Institute. D.W.H.
