Growing markets of MAC with HFC-134a in China.

Author(s) : HU J., LI C., YI X.

Summary

MAC production has increased dramatically in China along with the increase in automobile production during the last few years. At the same time, China started to phase out CFC-12 in MAC because of the requirements of the Montreal Protocol and banned the use of CFC-12 as refrigerant for new MAC at the end of 2001. The amounts of HFC-134a consumed in MAC increased from 101 MT in 1995 to 5 700 MT in 2003. HFC-134a consumption will continue to increase in the next 10 years, and the estimated consumption of HFC-134a will be limited to 14 000 and 21 000 MT in 2010 and 2015 respectively due to the following factors: using non-HFC-134a blends, technology used in MAC, good practice in servicing, and recycling/recovery of HFC-134a.
