Summary

Results from the computer models show that systems which utilise both heating and cooling simultaneously are more energy efficient and cost effective than conventional separate milk cooling and water heating equipment. During peak milk production at the Flaxley dairy energy cost per day for milk cooling and water heating will be reduced to 32% of the current usage (i.e. less than one third). These types of heat pumps with ice storage for cooling and heat recovery for heating could have applications in buildings.
