In France, a 0.5% drop in sales of ice cream in supermarkets took place in 1997; sales of ice creams on sticks and tubs of ice cream grew in 1997. Sales of bars of ice cream grew enormously, showing a 55.8% increase in sales volume in 1997 compared with the previous year.
