Improvement of the performance of a transcritical CO2 cycle by increasing the subcooling.

Summary

A CO2 transcritical heat pump is analyzed in this paper, where the inclusion of a heat exchanger after the gas cooler working as recuperator is numerically assessed to improve the performance of the heat pump. To do so, an experimental heat pump for hot water production already constructed in our laboratory has been considered and several models have been developed for the different systems working in the cycle. They have been included in the library of components of the TRNSYS Simulation Studio program. After, the results obtained from the models are contrasted with experiments and a modified heat pump and the effect of including this heat exchanger in the energy consumption is evaluated. The operation of this new heat pump configuration is compared with the performance of the original installation when working at optimal pressure.
