Summary

A supermarket chain is totally dependent on good customer relations. If recycling bins line the supermarket car park, it is essential that similar environmental care is present behind the scenes. These are the sentiments which have prompted one USA supermarket chain to formulate a positive reclaim and recovery plan for refrigerants, even though it changed from CFCs to R22 for new equipment as long ago as 1980. As they operate in-house servicing, all their servicemen have been trained in refrigerant handling, and recovery units are carried in their service vehicles. When obsolete equipment is replaced, the old compressor is used to pump a CFC charge into the system receiver, which is then valved off, removed and sent to a recycling company. Any recovery outside the scope of their own personnel is contracted to specialists. D.W.H.
