Summary

In this work, the program's themes and the scientific activities which have been developed during the first year of this research project, are explained. The brief introduction exposes the harmful effects produced by the cooling fluid emission in the atmosphere. This is followed by the description of the last protocols about the use of fluorine hydrocarbons as a cooling gas and the restrictions imposed by the EU. The aim of this project is the construction and monitoring of three refrigeration systems which are operated by extremely safe and environmentally-friendly natural fluids, including CO2 and air. Furthermore, the various possibilities to overcome, the technical and economic challenges linked to the thermodynamic properties of these natural fluids, are studied. Finally, the general criteria for refrigeration system planning and, also of their evaluation, are exposed.
