Summary

The interest towards the integration of power and cooling is increased to improve the performance of the integrated systems. Most of the cooling cogeneration cycles are integration of Rankine cycle and vapor absorption refrigeration cycles. In this paper a new design of a cooling cogeneration cycle is proposed operated by aqua-ammonia as working fluid. In addition to the basic cogeneration cycle, a flashing chamber is incorporated, which will boost the refrigerant flow rate without any additional heat supply. The system is analyzed at variable parameters of hot fluid supply temperature, strong solution concentration, ammonia vapor concentration and circulating water temperature to study the effect of turbine power output, cooling output, COP, cycle thermal efficiency, plant and cycle energy utilization factor (EUF) and solar collector area. The performance of the proposed cogeneration system at 150 °C of hot fluid supply temperature and 30 °C of circulating water temperature with 0.5 of strong solution concentration are as follows power of 13.82 kW, cooling of 429.95 kW, COP of 0.56, cycle thermal efficiency of 1.78%, collector area of 4.44 m2/kW, and cycle and plant EUF are 0.56 and 0.23, respectively.
