Summary

Tests on water-to-water heat pump and two-evaporator refrigerator-freezer using R22/R142b as alternative to R12 are presented. The tests show R22/R142b is energy conserving when strict counterflow heat exchangers are used. The refrigerator-freezer system is adjusted to match the thermodynamic characteristics of R22/R142b. Energy consumption has been reduced. The analysis shows using non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures as short or mid-term alternatives to CFCs would be a good choice.
