Summary
Ionizing irradiation and its main applications are described; the manner in which the safety of the process was proven is described. The article also describes methods of demonstrating whether or not a product has been treated with ionizing irradiation. Future prospects of this process are discussed. A European directive concerning ionizing irradiation is also mentioned.
