THE QUICK FROZEN FOOD MARKET IN JAPAN IS DEVELOPING (1986 PRODUCTION WAS 823,064 TONNES REPRESENTING AN INCREASE OF 5.7% IN COMPARISON TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR. PRODUCTION IS CHARACTERIZED BY A HIGH PROPORTION OF PREPARED DISHES. IMPORTS RELATE ESSENTIALLY TO QUICK FROZEN VEGETABLES. THE CONSUMPTION OF QUICK FROZEN FOODS FOR CATERING HAS RISEN SATISFACTORILY, WHEREAS IT IS STAGNANT FOR RETAIL SALES. THE PREPARATION OF NEW PRODUCTS IS INCREASING: PRODUCTS FOR MICROWAVE OVENS, PILAFF RICE AND FAST FOODS ; THE PREPARATION OF EXISTING PRODUCTS IS ALSO ACTIVE.
