Summary
The magnetic and structural phase transition (SPT) and the magnetic entropy change in the Ni-Mn-Ga Heusler alloy was experimentally investigated. The authors observed a plateau in the peak of the magnetic entropy change. The distance between the two peaks is 4 K. The two peaks are separately caused by SPT and a magnetic transition. With evidence the magnetic entropy change plateau is also shown by the ac-susceptibility which shows that the austenite Curie temperature is slightly lower than the martensitic transition temperature. This phenomenon seems to provide a possibility to extend the peak of the magnetic entropy change.
