Summary

Results of a 15 month-study of milk from 3 dairy plants in Melbourne. Pseudomonas is the dominant microorganism in milk stored at 4 or 7 deg C. Gram positive bacteria, yeasts, Flavobacterium, Enterobacteriaceae, Alcaligenes, Acinetobacter and Aeromonas are also isolated. Tests are carried out for evaluating the hygienic quality of milk and, further, for improving shelf life.
