Modelling and performance analyses of CO2 evaporator coils for chilled and frozen food display cabinets in supermarket applications.

Number: pap. ID: 742

Author(s) : SUAMIR I., TASSOU S. A.

Summary

This paper presents results of theoretical and experimental investigations on the main design parameters of CO2 evaporator coils such as tube diameter, number of refrigerant circuits, evaporator temperature and circulation ratio. A lumped element technique was applied to develop evaporator models which were used to design and to simulate different coil geometry and circuit arrangements. The test results from the experimental test facility were used for model validation. The evaporators considered were flooded evaporator coils for medium temperature supermarket refrigeration applications and direct expansion coils for both medium and low temperature applications. The paper also presents comparison analyses of CO2 evaporator coils and direct expansion coils using the synthetic refrigerant R-404A.
