Modelling of performance and charge in minichannel heat exchangers.

Summary

At the University of Padova, two low-charge shell-and-tube heat exchangers using minichannels, a condenser and an evaporator, have been realized for the use with propane. The computational procedures developed to design the heat exchangers are presented. The experimental performances with R22 and R290 are compared in the paper against the computations. The expected refrigerant charge has also been estimated by means of a number of void fraction correlations.
