Monitoring Canary Islands tomato quality during transportation to other countries and simulation in laboratory.

Summary

The monitoring of tomatoes from Tenerife and Gran Canaria was carried out to verify the external temperature, relativity humidity and pulp temperature of the fruits from the packinghouse to the destination port. The influence of temperature on quality and losses is tested with several non contaminating treatments. The parameters studied were commercial colour, peel deformation, °Brix and pH. Both preharvest conditions and refrigeration time were determining factors in the final quality of Canary Islands tomatoes.
