RESULTS OF WIDE EXPERIMENTS ON THE INOCULATION OF GROUND BEEF SAMPLES WITH SALMONELLA (TYPHIMURIUM, ENTERITIDIS, PARATYPHI B, SENFTENBERG) ARE DISCUSSED IN GENERAL. SALMONELLA MULTIPLICATION AT 279 K (6 DEG C) IS SHOWN. THE SEARCH FOR SALMONELLA IN 10, 1 AND 0.1 G RESULTEDIN RECORDING FALSE NEGATIVE RESULTS IN 7.01% OF CASES (68 TUBES OUT OF 960). THE CONSEQUENCES ON SALMONELLA INVESTIGATION STRATEGY ARE DISCUSSED. THE CASE OF FOOD TOXIC INFECTION IS ENVISAGED.
