Summary
The main objective of this guide is to share relevant experiences in the refrigeration, air-conditioning and foam sectors in which low-GWP technologies are employed, especially natural refrigerants and foam-blowing agents. This is especially important from the perspective of the current phase-out of HCFCs in Article 5 countries, as prescribed in the phase-out deadlines of the Montreal Protocol. With that purpose in mind, this Guide seeks to identify and describe barriers as well as good practices in the uptake of natural substances. By sharing such experiences, it will be important in raising awareness amongst interested parties in the industry, governmental, academic and non-profit spheres in regards to challenges and opportunities when leapfrogging from HCFCs to low-GWP alternatives. This guide includes too the UNIDO ATMOsphere Technology Summit summary report. This summit was held from 3 to 4 June 2013 at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
