Nucleate pool boiling of R134a on a gold-plated copper test tube.

Author(s) : BARTHAU G., HAHNE E.

Summary

Heat transfer coefficients and nucleation site densities have been measured using R134a as the test fluid in the pressure range. The test specimen is an electrically heated horizontal copper tube with an outer diameter d= 15 mm and a length l= 150 mm. The surface of the test tube is gold-plated and sandblasted. A comparison with earlier heat transfer data for the same test tube without gold-plating and an emery treated surface reveals that the gold-plated sandblasted surface exhibits somewhat higher heat transfer coefficients at higher pressures.
