Numerical simulation of air flow distribution in a refrigerated display case air curtain.

Summary

The paper deals with the study of air flow distribution and air curtain dynamics in a refrigerated display case devoted to bakery stores. The display case comprises three levels of presentation of pastry items. In this configuration, the upholding of imposed air temperatures at the three levels (affecting the cooling of the pastries) is a challenging operation when the outer air temperature reaches 30 deg C. A simulation model is built up to predict the air flow pattern characteristics in the cabinet. Measurements are also performed and compared with the predictions.
