THE AIM OF THE PRESENT WORK WAS TO FIND OPTIMAL CONDITIONS FOR LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL STIMULATION. CRITERIA FOR EFFICIENCY WERE AS FOLLOWS: THE TIME NEEDED FOR REACHING A PH OF 6.0 IN THE MEAT ; THE SPEED OF THE SLAUGHTERLINE ; POSSIBLE UNDESIRABLE SIDE EFFECTS. IT WAS FOUND THAT A PRECISE DEFINITION OF THE BEST ELECTRICAL PARAMETERS WAS UNIMPORTANT. TO FULLFIL DEMANS FOR A USEFUL PRACTICAL METHOD THE FOLLOWING ELECTRICAL CONDITIONS ARE RECOMMENDED: VOLTAGE 15 V ; CURRENT 0.2 A ; FREQUENCY 0.5 CYCLES/SECOND ; TIME 60 SECONDS.
