Summary
In the refrigeration and air-conditioning fields, the demand has been increasing in recent years for condensing units using lower GWP refrigerants as a means of contributing to the prevention of global warming. Toshiba Carrier Corporation has developed 6.0 kW outdoor condensing units capable of handling low-GWP and nonflammable refrigerants R448A (GWP = 1 387) and R449A (GWP = 1 397). We developed the compressor which improved reliability, in order to use R448A and R449A. It is noticeable that the developed unit demonstrated successful enhancement of COP values at every cooling capacity. Also, it became usable with evaporation temperature more wide-ranging than the conventional unit.
