Pool boiling from multiple square-shaped spines in a highly-wetting fluid.

Summary

Experimental results on pool boiling heat transfer from integral finned copper surfaces immersed in a saturated dielectric fluid (Fluorinert FC-72) are presented. Four extended surfaces of different dimensions were tested using vertical and horizontal orientations. The geometric configuration of the surfaces consisted of an array of straight spines with square cross section. Boiling curves were obtained at different pressures. Extended surfaces offered much better performance than the plane surface. The heat transfer coefficients and the maximum heat flux rose when pressure increased. Numerical results are given.
