Pool boiling heat transfer of ethanol-water mixtures on horizontal smooth and Gewa-TX tubes: the influence of two-phase crossflow.

Summary

A series of experiments with pure water, pure ethanol and several mixtures of the two was carried out in order to establish heat transfer characteristics. The study clearly shows that the mode of heat transfer depends strongly on both, the fluid and the surface: for the same flow and heating conditions, heat transfer characteristics range from nearly single phase convection with almost complete suppression of bubble nucleation through pool boiling to enhanced heat transfer. Two-phase convection improves heat transfer coefficients significantly not only on smooth but also on Gewa-TX surfaces.
