POSSIBILITIES FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF CFC-12 IN DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT.

Summary

THE ONLY SUBSTANCE, CONSIDERED TO BE APPLICABLE IN THE FUTURE, IS R134A. NEVERTHELESS, TOXICITY TESTS AND PRODUCTION MEANS REQUIRE FURTHER RESEARCH. THE APPLICATION OF REFRIGERANTS, OPERATING AT A HIGHER PRESSURE, SUCH AS R22, CAN BE CONSIDERED, BUT IN NUMEROUS CASES, A NEW DESIGN OF THE COMPRESSOR AND OF THE HEAT EXCHANGER WOULD BE NECESSARY ; THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CAPILLARY TUBE REQUIRED FOR R22 COULD BE PROHIBITIVE. IF FLAMMABILITY IS ACCEPTED (FOR HERMETIC SYSTEMS MORE PARTICULARLY), A SLIGHTLY WIDER RANGE OF SUBSTANCES CAN BE CONSIDERED. ETHANE (R170), PROPANE (R290) ANDISOBUTANE (R600A) HAS BEEN FOUND LIMITED USE. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES EXPERIENCES ON A REFRIGERATING APPARATUS WHICH USES THE TWO LAST FLUIDS.
