POSSIBLE SUBSTITUTES FOR FULLY HALOGENATED CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS USING FLUIDS ALREADY MARKETED.

Author(s) : KRUSE H., HESSE U.

Summary

THE TOXICITY OF FLUIDS WHICH ARE NOT YET ON THE MARKET SUCH AS R134A, R123, ETC, HAS NOT BEEN SUFFICIENTLY STUDIED. HENCE, THEY PROBABLY WILL NOT BE MARKETED FOR TEN YEARS, APPROXIMATELY. IT IS NECESSARY TO FIND SUBSTITUTES FOR FULLY HALOGENATED CFCS, AND TO CONSIDER, FIRSTLY, THOSE CFCS WHICH DO NOT APPEAR IN THE MONTREAL PROTOCOL. THE REFRIGERANTS AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET ARE R22, R23, R142B AND R152A. ALL THE CFCS IN THE MONTREAL PROTOCOL CANNOT BE REPLACED BY THESE SUBSTITUTES BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE LEVELS IN CERTAIN PLANTS, BECAUSE OF FLAMMABILITY, OIL BEHAVIOUR, ETC. FURTHERMORE, R22 SEEMS TO HAVE A HIGHER INFLUENCE ON THE OZONE LAYER THAN IS ASSUMED. THE SPECIFIC RESEARCH FIELDS FOR THE COMBINATIONS OF WELL KNOWN FLUIDS ARE, FOR INSTANCE, THE THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES, THE FLAMMABILITY TESTS, THE BEHAVIOUR OF A SYSTEM AND OF ITS COMPONENTS.
