Summary
Three experiments on potato storage and seed tuber physiology were conducted in 1995-96. The effects of sprout manipulation on seed tubers stored in diffuse light were investigated. In a second experiment, seed tubers were stored in a rustic store (mean daily temperature: 9.5 deg C) with diffuse light, or in a glasshouse (mean temperature: 16.2 deg C) in darkness or diffuse light. In the third experiment, storing seed tubers in underground mandarin stores or cellars at Yampaphant (475 m altitude) gave high storage losses and low tuber yields compared with storage in diffuse light. Cold storage of seed tubers gave the highest yield. At Lumle Centre (1675 meters altitude) there was no significant difference in storage losses or tuber yields between storage in underground mandarin stores and diffuse light stores.
