Potential of low GWP alternatives in refrigeration.

Author(s) : SICARS S.

Summary

Because of their low or 0 GWP, natural refrigerants are a technically interesting alternative to minimize greenhouse relevant emissions. As a basis, the presentation provides an overview of the different natural refrigerant technologies. Starting from there, the different applications, potential benefits, costs and drawbacks of the use of natural fluid technologies are discussed. The paper provides background information including calculated emission reduction potentials for discussions on the importance of these natural refrigerant technologies for minimising greenhouse gas emissions. Implementing only the most advanced technologies, which all have a limited increase in operational costs (but some of them significant investments), the annual atmospheric increase of greenhouse gases could be reduced by approximately 0.5%.
