HCFCs and HFCs: perspectives.

Author(s) : STEIMLE F.

Summary

Since the Montreal Protocol, there has been much discussion concerning the alternatives to the different CFCs. A lot of different points have to be considered carefully. These include ozone depletion, global warming, flammability and toxicity. As there will be no fluid with positive results for all four points, we must be aware of at least one risk. Development follows two directions, on the one hand towards fluorinated hydrocarbons and on the other hand towards natural fluids such as ammonia, propane, butane, CO2 and water.
