THE PAPER GIVES A REVIEW OF THE PRACTICAL APPLICABILITY OF TRANSPIRATION COEFFICIENTS WITH ONE IMPORTANT EXCEPTION: THE TRANSPIRATION COEFFICIENT AS A FUNCTION OF THE VAPOUR-PRESSURE DEFICIT. THE RELATION COMMONLY USED: TRANSPIRATION RATE, TRANSPIRATION COEFFICIENT AS FUNCTION OF VAPOUR PRESSURE DEFICIT, IS ALWAYS VALID, BUT THE TRANSPIRATION COEFFICIENT CANNOT BE CONSIDERED AS A CONSTANT PRODUCT PROPERTY. THE PAPER STARTS WITH A DISCUSSION OF THIS PHENOMENON AND THEN PROCEEDS WITH PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS.
