Pressure and thermal fronts propagation in adsorbers.

Propagation de fronts de pression et de température dans un adsorbeur.

Summary

Shelton and Tchernev proposed independently a technique based on the propagation of a thermal wave which, when added to the heat recovery system, will increase the COP of a heat pump. A model, incorporating the thermal wave concept, was developed and used to study the heat and mass transfer in a packed bed. The model is bidimensional and takes into account the convective heat transfer due to the fluid flow, represented by the Ergun law, and also the heat diffusion due to the finite conductivity and heat convection coefficient of the bed. From the numerical model, it appears that the isobaric model is only appropriate for porous media with large permeability.
