Summary
Carbon dioxide is an ecologically safe, non-toxic and non-combustible working fluid with zero ODP and zero GWP. The paper briefly summarizes the history of CO2 as a refrigerant and describes the essential characteristics and properties of the fluid. Several examples of applications and prototype systems in refrigeration, heat pumps and air conditioning are discussed and future propects are outlined.
