Reducing the environmental impact of refrigeration: an INEOS Fluor perspective.

Author(s) : LOW R. E.

Summary

HFO-1234zf is an existing molecule whose application as a refrigerant to date has largely been neglected. Its thermodynamic and transport properties show that it offers significant potential benefit. It offers good thermal properties, good energy efficiency and potentially good compatibility with current materials and lubricants. This is especially relevant given the growing interest in reduction of the environmental impact of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The final determinant of its utility will of course be its toxicology and flammability, both of which are under current investigation.
