Summary

To produce high quality spears it is necessary to have suitable raw material that can be obtained better with lateral heads than with main one. In order to obtain sufficient long stalk (more than 130 mm) with not such large heads, that otherwise require intervention to split its longitudinally with increasing percentage of low quality product, and also to make possible the mechanical harvesting, the authors have carried out experiences with different varieties and density of planting. It was observed that for mechanical harvesting it is necessary to have varieties with uniform maturity and spears with the right size. The best results were obtained with the cv. Granvert in minicontainer and at raw spacing of 200 mm.
