Summary

MARSH SEEDLESS GRAPEFRUIT AND VALENCIA LATE ORANGES WERE HELD AT 273 K DURING 48 H AND AT 263 K (-10 DEG C) FOR 24 AND 48 H AFTER A SIMULATED TEST OF TRANSPORTATION TO NORTH EUROPE USING FORCED VENTILATION. FRUIT INJURY AT 273 K OR LOWER TEMPERATURES WAS REGISTERED DURING A LATER STORAGE AT 293 K (20 DEG C). LOSSES DUE TO PHYSIOLOGICAL DISORDERS, FREEZING AND DECAY WERE QUANTIFIED. INJURIES AT 273 K WERE NOT CONSIDERABLE, HOWEVER, FRUITS SHOULD NOT REMAIN MORE THAN 24 H AT 263 K. IF THIS HAPPENS, THEY SHOULD BE MARKETED WITHIN 72 H.
