Results of the CIES questionnaire on the use of CFCs in the grocery sector.

Summary
A questionnaire on the use of CFCs in the grocery sector was sent to some 250 companies worldwide. Less than 30% responded and many of these indicated a lack of knowledge on phase-out dates and the CFCs included. Many also had no proper plan to cope with substitute refrigerants. Most respondents quoted R22 or R22 containing blends as the refrigerants they were changing to, without being aware that R22 had a limited life. Major concerns voiced included the high cost of conversion and the lack of adequately trained personnel. It seems doubtful whether many companies will be able to meet the new 1995 phase-out date agreed by the EC. D.W.H.
