Rigid polyurethane foams used in the field of domestic and commercial refrigeration: HCFC-141b as a substitute for CFC-11.

Author(s) : ROUX J. D., MEYNARD C.

Summary

In the field of blowing agents for rigid polyurethane foams, the only reasonable alternative is presently R141b (Elf Atochem: FORANE) which has been developed during the last five years. Nevertheless, hydrochlorofluorocarbons are transitional alternatives and are already regulated. A new generation of products, having no effect on the ozone layer, needs to be developed. That is why Elf Atochem is already working on zero ozone depletion potential substitutes development and especially on hydrofluorocarbons, fluorinated molecules having little or no flammability characteristics and exhibiting very high thermal insulation properties.
