Summary

Protein solubility decreased by more than 90%, whereas 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid (ANS) fluorescence showed little change. SDS-PAGE profiles showed irreversible insolubilization at increasing formaldehyde concentration. Raman spectral analysis indicated a change in secondary structure of aquacide concentrated myosin preparations. Changes in vibrational modes assigned to aliphatic residues suggested involvement of hydrophobic interactions after formaldehyde addition or frozen storage.
