Type of article: Article

Summary

MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE OF THE INTERNAL PRESSURE WHICH CAUSES GAPE AND HEAVE IN SKIPJACK FROZEN BY BEING IMMERSED IN OR SPRAYED WITH CALCIUM CHLORIDE OR ETHANOL BRINE. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE FISH CAN TOLERATE CONSIDERABLE INTERNAL PRESSURE DURING FREEZING BUT INTERNAL INJURY DOES TAKE PLACE. A THERMAL EQUALIZING PROCESS HAS BEEN DEVISED TO RELEASE INTERNAL PRESSURE AND STRESS.
