Summary

The 2010 World Expo has been held in Shanghai, China. An Expo Park has been built up along the sides of Huangpu River. This paper describes the application of river-water-source heat pump system in Shanghai Expo Park. The author’s team has involved in research work on the key technologies in the process of application to ensure the system safety and to improve energy performance. The main works included: (1) Thermal load estimation: Establishing cellular model of Pavilions, to modeling energy performance. (2) Water temperature estimation and distribution of the Huangpu River: to estimate the efficiency of chillers. (3) The optimum pipework radius of district cooling system: to reduce system hydraulic loss. (4) The impacts of large-scale river water source heat pump (RWSHP) on the River water environment. (5) The comparison of the energy performance of RWSHP with other district energy systems. (6) Operating mode of the RWSHP system. Energy saving and carbon emission mitigation benefits of the program were calculated.
