Summary
The paper looks at the cooling demand for air conditioning and/or comfort cooling. It concentrates on three different types of refrigeration systems. COP, capital and revenue costs are compared for a building that operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and has a constant cooling demand. Finally, it looks at the application of the most effective refrigeration system to standard office accommodations and suggests how efficiency targets could be set in the future for the air conditioning industry.
