Summary

THE AUTHOR SURVEYS THE FUTURE OF FOOD REFRIGERATION. CFCS MUST BE USED WITH MORE CARE AND EVENTUALLY REPLACED. AMMONIA WILL MAKE A LIMITED COMEBACK. BOTH CASES REQUIRE BETTER TECHNICAL PERSONNEL AND INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION WILL BECOME NECESSARY. ALTERNATIVES TO CFCS FOR INSULATION MANUFACTURE ARE THEMSELVES POORER INSULANTS. INSULATION THICKNESS WILL HAVE TO INCREASE. ENERGY EFFICIENCY IS OF VITALIMPORTANCE TO GLOBAL WARMING PROBLEMS, SO REFRIGERATION COSTS WILL INCREASE UNLESS EFFICIENCY CAN IMPROVE.
