Temperature and airflow characteristics in reefer vessels carrying New Zealand produce.

Summary

As New Zealand chilled cargo may be on-board reefer vessels for up to 5 weeks good temperature and airflow control is vital to maintain product quality. A comprehensive study was conducted to determine relationships between localised volumetric airflow, air temperature and fruit temperature both within a pallet and between pallets (kiwi). The results indicate that large variations of localised volumetric airflow can occur over a cargo deck in vessels having longships air distribution whereas the delivery air temperature is much more stable.
