Summary
A standard heat pump unit originally designed for R22 as working fluid has been tested with propane as working fluid. The water to water heat pump has a refrigerant amount of 0.7 kg R22 and has a hermetic compressor and brazed heat exchanger as evaporator and condenser. With propane as working fluid, the amount of refrigerant is 0.55 kg. The unit's heating capacity and COP were measured. Besides, total heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop were measured for the evaporator.
