THE APPLICATION OF THE GIBBS-DUHEM EQUATION FOR BINARY PHASE EQUILIBRIUM MEASUREMENTS.

Author(s) : OWREN G., BRENDENG E.

Summary

A METHOD IS PROPOSED FOR CALCULATING THE EQUILIBRIUM CURVES (P,T,X,Y) FROM THE MEASUREMENT OF THE TOTAL PRESSURE, AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES, FOR A MIXTURE WHOSE COMPOSITION IS KNOWN WITH ACCURACY. THIS APPROACH IS REPEATED FOR DIFFERENT COMPOSITIONS. THE ARTICLE INCLUDES A STUDY OF THE PRECISION OF THIS METHOD, WHOSE DRAWBACK IS THAT IT REQUIRES CORRELATIONS FOR THE VAPOUR AND LIQUID VOLUMES AND FOR THE FUGACITY COEFFICIENT OF THE VAPOUR PHASE. THIS METHOD IS APPLIED TO THE R22-R114 MIXTURE AT 273 K (0 DEG C).
