Summary

Fruits of the HLH Mauritius and Red McLean (Madras) cultivars were treated with low pH solutions of 0.25, 0.5 or 1.0% citric, hydrochloric or nitric acid, after the normal postharvest SO2 treatment. The external colour of such fruits after 30 days storage at 2 deg C was superior to that of fruits treated only with SO2. Fruits of cv. Madras treated with hydrochloric acid developed a full red colour. Complete control of postharvest decay was obtained in all treatments.
